I think "taking care of a Brooks" is overrated. You can Obenauf it once, 
hand him a saddle cover if he intends to ride in hard rain, and send him on 
his way. Even if he never goops it or covers it again, it should last many 
years/miles. Europeans have been abusing these things in all kinds of 
weather for a century. Yes, they take more care than a plastic saddle if 
you want them to last forever, but the reality is even plastic saddles get 
bashed and worn out in due time. I think a used Brooks with some life left 
in it is a reasonable option.
