I run Maxy Fasties on my Protobleriot in the summer and ran Nifty
Swifties for several years on my Saluki. This past winterless winter,
I put Soma Xpresses on the Proto. I've also used Col de Vies on the
Saluki. My bikes do service primarily as commuters between St. Paul
and Minneaplis with a 20-mile round-trip. About half the commute is
on a side street that is in rough shape pot-hole and crack-wise, and
then there's ice and crusty snow. Only the Col de Vie has given me a
flat, but a slow one. Were I in your situation, and I was looking at
Maxy Fasties, I'd give a good long look at the Nifty Swifties as the
tougher version but still slim (33). I am also liking the Soma
Xpresses which I got for winter because they have more tread, were
recommended on this list-serve, and were the biggest tire (~38) that
the proto could take with fenders.
