Oh, doing it without a diving board would avoid any interference with my fender 
mount. I could use one of Sheldon's fender nuts, probably, to minimize the 
interference. But generally I would prefer being able to put the rack on and 
take it off without any effect on my fender mount at all. And I probably will 
have a cafe lock there, which will simply complicate things a little more.

It's no big deal, I could even see using both the diving board and the "upper" 
struts for extra strength if you wanted to haul a heavy load sometimes. I 
wonder if you could get two of the huge Wald baskets on a platrack in a stable 
way. That'd be some grocery room indeed.
