Whoa, they've been and are still are as different as the US is to the UK or East Germany was to West. Yes there is shared history but for over six decades, they've been operating as two separate nations with two separate cultures and writing systems. And bringing it back to bikes, two different levels of attention to detail and simple craftsmanship!
I'm looking forward to building up my San Marcos frameset this fall as my go-to quick, rando/charity ride/fendered but rackless steed.
