I have the same setup on my wife's Betty. Are you using the Shimano or Silver pods? There is a difference between them I find. Use the Shimano pods if you can locate a pair. There are these orientation markings on the Shimano spacers that they can only be inserte into the pods in a certain way.
The shifting does get a bit tricky when you reach either of the ends. The shifter seems to run out of room and doesn't quite click as smoothly.
