I'm confused as to what had to go? Are you saying that a Bruce Gordon Rock 
n' Roads can't fit fenders and that you had to  sell it to get your mystery 
bike?
 
I agree that in most cases, a commuter should have fenders. I'm lucky to 
have more than one bike and put fenders, albeit cheapy plastic Crud 
fenders, on one of my bikes to use when its wet outside. Otherwise, one 
lucky thing about living in my area is there are months when it doesn't 
rain and fenders are optional. Good Luck!
