Ron Mc: Not to split hairs and pick nits, but... in the 700x28 size, there
are several options that are considerably lighter than the Pasela. The
Pasela 700x28 wire-bead tires I have in my shop are 310g on average
according to the label, not 270g. This is actually close to the 320g weight
of a "heavy" Conti Gatorskin in the same nominal size, and heavier than a
295g JB Green in the noticeably fatter 700x33.33333 size. The Panaracer
folders - T-serv and Pasela TG - in 700x28 are listed at 280-290g. Are
there regular non-TG Pasela with a kevlar bead? If so, those might be the
270g version to which you're referring. Nonetheless... The Conti GP
4-season is 250g. Schwalbe Durano and Vittoria Rubino Pro II are listed at
230g and 225g, respectively. And there are other similar lightweights in
the sub-250g weight class. Obviously, compared to Schwalbe Marathon and
Continental Contact and other heavily-armored tires, the Pasela is a
lightweight rocket ship, but compared to the true lightweights, it's 30-40%
too heavy. Hence my confusion about whether you have positive or negative
feelings about the Pasela based on its weight. I'm still not sure if you're
praising it or berating it based on its weight.

That said, and to bring this somewhat back on-topic, 700x28 lightweight
performance tires are somewhat of a newish thing. Going bigger than 700x28,
700x32 performance tires are mostly in the cyclocross knobby category.
Bigger than 700x32 is mostly relegated to the flat-proof heavy-duty and/or
cheap category among major tire manufacturers. The Paselas in the bigger
sizes, the Kojak in 700x35, and the JB Green are good quality decently
lightweight exceptions. The Marathon Supreme is the balance that works for
me most of the time. They're weight-competitive with Paselas but much
tougher and longer lasting.
