"Nah, the Bombadil ain't the MB, and I don't think of it as a road bike OR a mountain bike...it simply ain't like any other bike..."
True of a lot of Rivendells, it seems to me. Bomba, for sure. The (I-hope-still-on-the-horizon) Appaloosa, for sure. Quickbeam, for sure. But even the more "conventional" Riv bikes are in important ways different from (and for me, better) than their genre and sub-genre counterparts. Granted, my experience is not anywhere near as wide-ranging as many on this list. I'm delighted with my Bombadil. I'd never consider taking my Bomba on the same rocky and technical trails I typically ride my mountain bike on, but I seldom hesitate to load it up with gear and take it off-road through moderately rough terrain, out for leisurely spins, to the store or my favorite pub, or on a road ride with my go-fast friends... (although I do have to keep reminding them, "Guys... why don't you just slow down and ENJOY the ride, please?"...) Originally I figured it would just be a slightly altered version of the Bridgestone MB, maybe with more braze-ons and heavy duty tubing. The TT lengths seemed exceptionally long for the given sizes and the clearances didn't seem to be as wide as they should be. The extra tubes seemed odd at first but now I'm fine with them. The Hunqa seems a better thought out bike in terms of sizing and clearances. I realize a lot of this is subjective. All that said, about 2 yrs ago I was close to pulling the trigger on a Hunqa, had the funds and green light from my wife, but instead went with an LHT. I've been happy with the LHT but there are times I wish I had gone with the Hunqa... --mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
