Michael, no it doesn't seem to create any extra stress.  The drivetrain had
been on another bike before this, and I've used the concept in the past.

Ian, it wasn't that I wasn't taken with the first Hillborne.  Had it for a
few years, actually.  More like it was too small and the present bikes are
considerably different than the ones back then.  Plus, haven't owned a
brake that takes sidepulls in 30 years.  Oh, and can't discount the allure
of two top tubes.  Or the significant birthday coming up this year factor.

Edwin, yes, they are similar.  I don't have the second chainring.  But have
thought about a setup like your.

Did get out on a ride today.  My longest of the year so far.  Okay, it was
a mere 24 miles, Took it over to Hiawatha Cyclery.  Nothing fell off the
bike or made an odd grinding sound, so it should work okay.  Glad I had the
studded tires on, but they are getting to be a chore.  Hoping to put the
Schwalbe Marathon Racers on soon.
