In the two years I've been riding Hetres I've had several similar gashes with no ill effects. Generally, they've been caused by very small pieces of glass--or the gash somehow came first and the glass got in--and so I've had to get tweezers and pull the glass out. But the gash itself has never caused a problem or grown bigger. I say: ride on.
