I've been generously given a set of wheels (thanks, Kelly/Tom) for the Ram
but, if you can't get a freebie, I'd vote for building your own.
(Incidentally, traded the donated one for a set of Open Pro/Ultegra ones
from my brother, who wanted a sturdier, wide-rim set for a 29er.)

OTOH, I had the budget wheels on the Sam Hill I briefly owned and they were
perfectly good.
