Not so much given that many of of the items that Rivendell sells- and in many cases, even equivalent alternatives- is not readily available in most bike shops. I buy over the internet to find items that I can't get locally or at least can't get conveniently from a local supplier. Occasionally I buy over the internet due to price but if shipping, handling (and now sales tax) is close to what I'd pay locally, then I buy locally. I get it faster, I can see it before I buy it, and I value my relationships with local businesses.
