Hey Charlie (and whoever),

I'm not sure about road surface conditions.

It seems like we have 2 good riding route options...

FS 23 towards Babyshoe Pass is paved, but not sure how good the pavement
is. This would be the longer + more gradual route. I imagine this road has
more traffic (not that I expect there to be much). I don't think we would
make it all the way to Babyshoe Pass (20+ miles one way from the CG). We'd
be at 3500ft at mile 17. I'd guess that's about where we'd hit snow.

FS 22 goes along the North Fork Cispus River. It appears to be less of a
road... it's hard to get a good view of the road on Google. The bits I was
able to see appear to be dirt/gravel, but it's hard to tell. This road is a
bit steeper and leaves the river at about mile 9 to climb in earnest.
3500ft is around mile 12. This option would be shorter but would be steeper
for a few miles at the end.

My inclination is 60/40 in favor of FS 22 merely because it seems the road
less traveled and is a bit more unknown. I'm sure FS 23 would be fun too if
other's want to explore that way.

FWIW... it sounds like the Portland crew (3 of us) will be driving up so no
rides from the train station needed.
