Five of us met at a campground in the shadow of Mt Adams for the *Seattle
vs Portland Country Bike Rumble*. We got things squared away at camp and
set out for the Rumble Ride. We headed up The North Fork Cispus River for
about about 10 miles…. a fair amount of climbing, lots of breaks, bike
talk, and we found a nice view point to hang out for a snack and some
hanging out before heading back down. The Portland crew whipped up a
spaghetti dinner then we settled around the camp fire until well after
dark.

In the morning the Seattle crew (aka Brian) was the first one up so he got
a fire going and cooked a big batch of eggs. After breakfast and cleaning
up around camp, Charlie had to head home, but the rest of us headed out to
investigate the snow level. We figured we'd eventually be stopped by the
snow and have to turn around. The snow ended up being mostly melted. We got
crazy close to making the connection to connect to our 40 mile loop. We
implemented the Manny Principle (keep pressing forward despite not really
knowing what's up ahead and even though it's likely to cause you to be late
getting home). The loop turned out to include a spectacular 5 mile descent
down a jeep road. Following the ride we loaded the bikes into the cars and
headed our separate ways.

As for who "won" the Rumble… I't wasn't exactly clear. We were so
pre-occupied riding, telling stories, geeking out on bikes, and generally
having a great time that the Rumble part of it fell off the radar. Perhaps
we'll have to do it again and be more on top of it.
