I nose breathe all the time (except on climbs over 10,000 feet, where bugs 
are not a huge issue), and even then gnat clouds can give a lot more 
texture to the air than is preferable. But that's only an infrequent and 
short lived issue in the Colorado Rockies. Short of a "no-see-um" mesh 
bandana it's hard to know what would accomplish the task and be more 
breathable than a cotton one. Good luck!
