The Riv video shows the upper section being done from the brake lever up. Recently I tried ending both sections at the brake lever and found that it really works well. It makes the hemp twine thing unnecessary, but you can still do it just for looks. It works really well for a harlequin weave. For a single color, just be sure that you wrap the two sections in opposite directions, so the tape arrives at the brake lever on each side.
