Re: upside down thumbnails and pics from an iPhone, it's a known iOS bug. Apple products automatically fix the issue... unless you went back and rotated 'em. But the combination of Windows and/or Flickr often throw with loaded dice.
On an iPhone 4 and etc., just make sure the volume buttons are pointing DOWN whenever you take horizontally oriented photos or video, and everyone on every platform should* see your pics just fine. Yes, that's the exact opposite of how Apple ads show you're supposed to take a photo utilizing the volume buttons. Think different!
