OK, I've had a MadCatz Wireless Micro Controller as shown at
http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4-/3512890/Madcatz-PS2-Wireless-Microcon/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0

That's had the best range of those I've tried.

The next best are these ones:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110410764013

They've worked well for me. Range isn't as good as the MadCatz one
though. It is still plenty for RC Tank Combat though (~5-10 metres).

I also have tried one from Amazon, and it's really unreliable and the
range is about 5cm (yes, 5cm!). The ones from eBay are most readily
available (on eBay), just be careful that you get one that is actually
that type. There is a silver version of it, which works equally well.

Hope this helps.
