never thought of locktite. as for the bearing surface being impregnated with oil, ya, that's my big hang-up. i was wondering about maybe just silicone, but not sure how well it would bond to the bearing due to the oil. sanding down the shaft itself isn't a big issue as i'll end with some wet/dry sand paper to give it a more polished surface. i have to look at the bearing again, but i was even thinking of taking a round file and making a notch into the flange part and then using a small bolt and lock washer pin it in place.
