In order to avoid "throwing out the baby with the bathwater" one must first
agree on what are the essentials that should be retained and what are
outdated matters that should be discarded. I sense that the agreement is  
lacking.
While new media are all about us the rules should still show  a decent respect
for print media as it is, I suspect still the domminant  medium in most
libraries. I believe ISBD descriptions are essential  and that exclusive 
reliance on
romanized access points for names originally in  other scripts is outdated
trivia. Others may feel differently. RDA is not  yet clear on the latter issue.
