Folks:

An update to Karen's message below. The NSDL Registry now has the new
version of its schema registration capability available, including the
provisional registration of the RDA element vocabulary. Go to
http://metadataregistry.org, and click on "schemas" in the right hand
side browse list. Or go directly to:
http://metadataregistry.org/schema/show/id/1.html and click on the
"Properties" tab to see he currently registered properties.

Please feel free to comment on what you see, or ask questions. We hope
to continue to register additional RDA properties and subproperties
within the next few weeks, and to bring some additional issues to the
community as well.

All,

A significant amount of progress has been made on the RDA vocabularies
project. All of this should be consider "alpha" and details will
change as we begin to tie different parts of the project together.
Here's where we are at this point:

-- The first pass at an RDA vocabulary (properties only; subproperties
will be added later) has been created in a beta version of the NSDL
Registry. This should become publicly available shortly and the link
will be posted here when it's available. This set is based on the
table of properties [1] that were derived from the RDA Elements
document [2].

-- We now have both cataloger, user, and developer scenarios on the
wiki [3], but we still need more! Please contribute by posting here or
sending to kcoyle at kcoyle.net. We need both scenarios that stretch
the envelope as well as the more mundane ones that cover common tasks.

-- Cataloger scenarios are being generated as RDF triples as a way of
testing whether the vocabulary, as defined, is sufficient to render
the scenario. Other scenarios will also be tested in this way. This
work is just beginning so you will see links appear from the scenarios
to the test RDF. [7]

-- Note that the FRBR entities have been entered into the NSDL
metadata registry sandbox [4] along with the FRBR relationships [5]
and the FRBR user tasks [6]. These will be incorporated into the
rendering of the scenarios as appropriate. This work is also linked
off of the project wiki [3].

Some next steps:

-- Identify a few of the controlled lists ("value vocabularies") in
our first pass properties and register those. This will allow us to
experiment further with scenarios.

-- The "definitions" currently in the first pass list [1] came from
RDA scope notes. The RDA definitions (or other definitions) need to be
substituted for them.

In case I missed anything, I hope that others will chime in.
