There may be rationale, but no rationality.  These content terms are
used with another core element, carrier, and optionally media type,  
Given ISBD's Areao 0 "electronic", and carrier "computer disk" or "online
resource", the longer phrase is clearly redundant, as are other longer
phrases.

In addition to which, those longer phrases do not lend them selves to
compact display.  SLC itends to shorten them for display.
