SCCTP Basic Serials Cataloging Workshop Date: Wednesday, August 3, 2011 Time: 9:00am-5:00pm Location: Pepperdine University (Payson Library on the Malibu, CA campus) Registration fee: $50 for all attendees (Includes breakfast and refreshments) To register, please contact Lynne Jacobsen by Monday July 17, 2011: lynne.jacob...@pepperdine.edu The Basic Serials Cataloging Workshop provides the basic principles of serials cataloging for original and copy cataloging for print serials. It focuses on the elements contained in the CONSER standard record (CSR), including appropriate MARC 21 tagging, as well as problem-solving and decision-making relative to serials cataloging. It does not provide instructions for the MARC 21 format for holding data, advanced serials cataloging, or cataloging of electronic and special kinds of serials. This workshop is designed for those new to serials: beginning serials catalogers and technicians and monograph catalogers working with serials. Presenter Information Melissa Beck currently serves as the Senior Cataloging Librarian at the UCLA Law Library, and has been a CONSER cataloger since 1986. In addition to cataloging, she has worked as an academic reference librarian, systems librarian, and as a private consultant providing training and other user support services. She has developed and presented SCCTP workshops in Basic and Advanced Serials, Integrating Resources, and the CONSER Standard Record. Valerie Bross has headed the Continuing Resources Cataloging Section of the UCLA Library Cataloging & Metadata Center since 1998. She is an SCCTP trainer for Basic and Advanced Serials Cataloging, Integrating Resources, and e-Serials Cataloging. She is currently serving on PCC task groups to revise CONSER Cataloging Manual Module 35/BIBCO Manual Appendix A (also known as the Integrating Resources Cataloging Manual) and to revise CCM Module 31 on remote electronic serials.
