Just for the record, those authorities were created by Follett Library Resources (ICrlF), not LC.

Ditto Stilton, Geronimo (no2013042861). This week before LC created these headings, I attempted to find the identity of this "fictitious author" and gathered the following information: Elisabetta Dami (Milan, 1958) is an Italian children's fiction writer and the creator of the Geronimo Stilton<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geronimo_Stilton> series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisabetta_Dami Who Writes The Geronimo Stilton Books? Geronimo Stilton of course! He is on the book covers and in the bibliographic information inside as the credited author of the books. Geronimo Stilton is also the pen name of Elisabetta Dami, an author who co-owns Edizioni Piemme, an Italian Publishing House that started publishing the Geronimo Stilton Books in the year 2000. The Geronimo Stilton Books are the most popular children's books in Italy, even outselling Harry Potter! Scholastic has published the English translations of the Geronimo Stilton Books since 2004 and continues to release them every few months. A graphic novels series is also available and a cartoon series will be released in 2010. http://www.geronimo-stilton.com/why-geronimo-stilton-is-great-for-kids-1/ Thea Stilton place of birth Italy website http://www.geronimo-stilton.com/ genre Children's Books, Comics & Graphic Novels, about this author A pseudonym of Elisabetta Dami, aka Geronimo Stilton<http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/53793.Geronimo_Stilton>. Elisabetta Dami is an Italian author that currently resides in Italy. She is the author of the Geronimo Stilton series, a bestselling childrens book. She enjoys traveling the world seeking ideas for her series. She writes under a pseudonym of Geronimo Stilton. She is also a co-owner of Italian based publishing company Edizioni Piemme. Her books have been translated into English by Scholastic Inc. >From Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2896473.Thea_Stilton So I have a fictitious author, a creator, and a pseudonym! It's comforting to have more enlightened minds grapple with this issue and forget some of my anxieties about RDA with the above LC decision. Lynne J. So if a fictitious character presents himself or herself as the creator of a resource or a contributor to an expression, it is appropriate to establish the character as a person and use the authorized access point in a 1XX or 7XX field in a bibliographic record. In this case Thea Stilton presents herself as the author of the work. For the moment LC policy is to have a separate heading for fictitious characters for subject access, but hopefully that policy will be reconsidered soon so that we only have one access point for the same entity. The variant name or names for the person are used as the basis for variant access points. Other identifying attributes of the person may also be included in the access point. Persons include fictitious entities, such as literary figures, legendary figures, etc." In ocn #830353019, Thea Stilton is used as follows: 100 1_ |aStilton, Thea, |e author. The statement of responsibility appears as: 245 1 4 $aThe secret of Whale Island /$cby Thea Stilton ; story by Francesco Artibani and Caterina Mognato ; art by Cristina Giorgilli and Raffaella Seccia ; translation by Nanette McGuinness. This is an RDA record. LC sh2012004522 indicates that Thea Stilton may be used as a subject heading: 150 __|a Stilton, Thea (Fictitious character) I realize that chapter 9 deals with guidelines on recording names and other identifying attributes as separate elements, as parts of access points, or as both. But how does this justify the use of Thea Stilton as an author? My preference is to assign Artibani and Mognato as authors and leave Thea Stilton as simply a topical subject heading. Has chapter 9 reversed this interpretation? Thank you for your clarification in this matter. Like many of us, I am a novice RDA cataloger. Lynne J.
