_____ From: re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org [mailto:re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org] On Behalf Of Nick Vida Sent: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 10:04 PM To: re-wrenches@lists.re-wrenches.org Cc: nickv...@ymail.com Subject: [RE-wrenches] Santa Monica guidlines/ CEC Wrenches, This is an interesting email i received today from an inspector in Santa Monica, CA. He reference the CEC, and I am not familiar. Is this the Canadian Electrical Code(CEC)? Also, Santa Monica, CA just published their guidelines and there is a link in the email. They are pretty close to the one Bil Brooks worked on for Schwarzenegger. _____ Here is the Email (my draft of my response follows): Hi Nick It is my understanding that your permit will be extended by 6 months. Here is the short cut for the SM PV standards. Shortcut to: http://www.qcode.us/codes/ <http://www.qcode.us/codes/santamonica/index.php?topic=8-8_40> santamonica/index.php?topic=8-8_40 Weather and sunlight resistant stickers are acceptable. The following correction items are in commonly overlooked. * The PV source and PV output circuits can not be contained in the same raceways per 690.4(B). * A newer and commonly missed requirement is the identification of conductors of different systems. The conductors of the DC are required to be identified differently per 2007 CEC 310.12, 215.12, 210.5(C) and 200.6. The 2007 CEC is based on the 2005 NEC. * Please download the CalOSHA requirements for the installation of ladders. Inspectors will not climb ladders that are not compliant with the requirements. Please be prepared to install a suitable ladder, inspectors may not be permitted adequate time to wait for the installation of various ladders. If I can be of further help please don't hesitate to contact me. The clarification note in the handbook is: For example, 690.4(B) does not permit the conductors supplying an exterior lighting fixture located in close proximity of a roof- mounted PV array to be installed in the same raceway or cable with the conductors of PV source circuits or PV output circuits. Conductores directly related to a specific PV system, such as those in dc and ac output power circuits, may be contained in the same raceway as PV source and output conductors... (page 1020 2005 NEC Handbook) We would only be running the solar circuits in our raceways connecting different runs to our gear. Are you saying you have a concern about such a raceway? Nick Vida _____ Any thoughts Wrenches?
