On the subject of inverters wearing out:
I would share that the off grid houses that the contractor or client who choose to use the inverter for running the air compressor, planer, and all assorted power tools [at the same time]for the entire house construction project had a definite shortened life of the inverter. My examination of the inverter transformers in SW 4024 & 48's has revealed everything from extremely darkened to ash covered windings on the transformers. Ash covered windings are pretty scary folks. The shutdowns and intermittent battery charging rates are tell tale of an issue here as they fail. ____________________________________________________________________________ Dana Orzel - Great Solar Works, Inc - d...@solarwork.com - www.solarwork.com V - 970.626.5253 F - 970.626.4140 C - 970.209.4076 "Responsible Technologies for Responsible People since 1988" NABCEP # 051112-136 From: re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org [mailto:re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org] On Behalf Of Chris Mason Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 6:04 PM To: RE-wrenches (John Berdner) Subject: Re: [RE-wrenches] high insolation value and inverter undersizing (John Berdner) The idea of the electronics "wearing out"is a strange one. The inverters are only at full capacity for a small amount of the time, at peak hours which is only 2 to 4 hours a day, and only for part of that time if you have clouds, and who doesn't? Pushing them a little harder should not "wear them out". So one question would be, what is the rated duty cycle of the inverters? Let's remember, we are not proposing to increase the operating voltage, just to provide more current when needed. It's the inverter that chooses to use the available current.
