HI Allen,
Kinetico is a quality machine. Not a problem with city water pressure.
Check that your well water pressure will be satisfactory. What is
absolutely required is a good sediment prefilter to keep the little gear
train from becoming contaminated and jammed. If the gears don't spin
freely, they miscount the water used and dose the water too sparingly
resulting in not so soft water.
Another benefit of the Kinetico, in addition to the dual resin tanks, is
those (smaller) resin tanks can be wall mounted so the only piece of
equipment that would typically take up floor space is the salt tank.
All sorts of testing apparatus exist to verify the pH but the users
first line of defense should be if the water feels silky/slippery/slimy,
depending on personal perceptions, then the machine is working. If not,
fix it now as scale buildup plays havoc with all the valves and
appliances the untreated water flows through, especially the hot water.
Have you considered that the meaningful application may be on the hot
water only? You probably already know not to plumb the garden faucet(s)
into the salt softened water.
