Kris:

So many variables and potential performance concerns with fire damage depending of the number of modules involved, and how close the modules were to the fire, and/or the ambient temperature and duration to which the modules were subjected.

Depending on the duration of high temperature exposure, there could be module laminate, micro-cracking, or other mechanical concerns, as well as PV wire and/or connector problems. None of which may show up with a visual inspection or a simple Isc/Voc test.

An Isc and Voc test would be woefully inadequate. I highly recommend an on the ground in-situ performance assessment using an IV Curve Tracer like a Solmetric PV1000.

Where are you located? PV module / string level performance assessment is a service my firm provides. I am located in the DFW TX area. Please contact me off-list if you think your client is interested.

Greetings wrenches,

I have a client that is looking to buy some salvaged modules off of a building that was near a fire.  What kind of potential issues can you anticipate?  Smoke, heat, etc.  Would it be enough to just test voc and isc for a known cell temp and irradiance in addition to a visual inspection or would an iv curve trace be necessary?

Thanks for any information,
Kris
