We installed one early on. Love the concept – kind of like the SMA “Secure
Power Supply” on steroids.

But there was some confusion on exactly what I needed, specifically as it
relates to the load controllers. The intent of the load controllers was to
switch off heavy loads during early morning / late afternoon sunlight so that
if “sunlight backup” was needed then, too big a load didn’t trip up the IQ8s. I
was told I needed two load controllers but I’m starting to think we just needed
one SKU which has two loads controllers in it.

Would be nicer if they just gave the option for no load controllers as it was
substantial effort to install and another bulky box to hang on wall.

Al in all, love the concept but you literally put in every component necessary
for battery storage, except for the battery, and in the future we just might
tell folks, “just put in the battery” as it’s pretty nominal price after the
system controller, load controller(s?), and the essential loads panel.

Wrenches,

Interested to hear if anyone has been using Sunlight Backup, and if so, how the
experience has been (for you as well as for your clients). Thanks

Adam
