In any case, it still might not be safe to take on characters >= 128,
as a random toy Scheme may not work on it properly... I suggest
putting next-line into the portability layer anyway, just to be safe.
Anything outside of US-ASCII is not 100% reliable on a random Scheme
IMO, so I think putting them into the portability layer and allowing
them to be disabled is best.
