Concerning remarks on performance, when there is a wish expressed
for a faster version of this or that, it would be helpful to have some
specific timings (for program P and hardware H).  Perhaps someone
could propose a program which can be used as a 'standard' benchmark
to provide explicit timings.

(Back in the sixties/seventies the Sieve of Eratosthenes was popular--
mainly to compare compiler performance, P's running performance, and
hardware performance in the languages then of interest . . .
C, Fortran, Pascal . . . and H was usually a ThinkPad or Macintosh. But it 
would be of interest now to see runtime comparisons for RB vs VB and  
OS X  vs Wintel and . . .)
