I upgraded to 2006, and have not been able to use it. I still build my flagship apps with v5.5
I recently tried 2006 on a new project. I wanted to create a blogging application similat to the blogging facility in Apple's iWeb.
The project requires dragging and dropping images onto canvases. I kept getting mixed results, sometimes it worked, then stopped working.
I took the project back to 5.5 to straighten things out and learned that the cog was window compositing. Because I'm using sheet window dialogs, the main window must be composited. But when running this in 2006, the compositing prevents dropped images from appearing (redrawing) in the canvases until the window is reactivated.
No idea if this is fixed in R3. For now, it is impossible to bring this project to 2006, so I'm stuck developing in v5.5.
While I want to move forward, I can't. The current shipping RB product is not the same quality standard as 5.5. I paid for 2006 and got nothing out of it. I will have to pay again when Universal Binary capability is provided,. So, then, will my composited windows refresh their canvases when images are dropped on them from the Finder?
I started with this product in 2001. It was bad enough struggling through all the OSX development changes, now I'm struggling with RB changes. I've had letters from folks who have seen my accounting software indicating I have a potiential Quicken killer. Unfortunately, RS is not currently releasing a product that will help me convince the world of that. As long 2006 builds Rosetta-only apps, I may as well stay with v5.5.
Again, my most recent project, had to go back to 5.5 because 2006 can't. No idea from feedback reports if this is fixed in R3. I've a downloadable archive of the same project code, built with 5.5 and 2006. You can see the difference for yourself, 2.6MB archive:
