One positive benefit of going to the Intel platform is that RS could make
the strategic choice of focusing all future compiler optimisation efforts on
Intel alone. I would imagine that to a large extent , many optimisations
might then be able to be shared with relatively few changes - across the
three main OS's - XP, OSX and Linux.

 I think it would be a "fair cop" to omit this for the "legacy" platforms -
ie PowerPC, since any mac user who really needed such speed enhancements
ought to be moving to Intel anyway.
