Creating your own web server is a very good way of creating a web
application.
Might be. But I received emails, who asked, why I didn't created a
CGI, which could simple be deployed using Apache. Deploying your own
web server might force security teams to ask regarding vulnerabilities
and such. Moreover, people might ask regarding scalabiliy...
So, you own web server might or might not be a good choice.
