Shouldn't it (or doesn't it) yield a runtime error? Does this mean
that we have to check for divide-by-zero errors by hand? (I usually
do this anyway, but could error trapping be used as an alternative?)

It is the nearest approximation to infinity which will fit in a 32-
bit signed integer.
