This is very interesting.

I come from a Macintosh background. I have always read that one of the
fundamental differences when developing for Windows is that instead of
using the Preferences folder to store a Preferences file as we do on
the Mac, on Windows one should use the Registry to store preferences.
Now you're saving that the AV community (or at least this one vendor)
is essentially reversing that design directive.

used to use the Windows Registry to store its preferences, now
however it uses the preferences folder and creates an XML file. This

It seems totally outrageous that they would lock down the Windows
Registry, but hey thats life.
