Your last statement assumes that Apple is shielding any developer
from licensing from the license providers or owners. I have been
waiting for Apples reply on this.
Since we were not creating an MP3 decoder, just using the one
supplied by Apple, we did not have to license anything from anyone
other than MPEG-LA for MPEG-4
Same for all the other playback and media creation
If you are writing a decoder of your own my understanding is you need
to acquire a license
But I'm not a lawyer just someone who worked in that field for a few
years and was involved in building both the software and hardware
