2.33 MHz? My 1990 MacClassic ran at 8 MHz. I think you meant GHz. :)

My 2 GHz G5 iMac improved significantly when I increased my Ram from 1 GB to 2 GB (the maximum for that machine). I found that I was using up to 800 MB of Ram with a couple of other apps running and a couple of Rb projects open.

My hard drive is used much less now.

Rb suggests a minimum of 768 MB of available RAM but that must be added to the OS's appx 200 MB and any other apps you have running. Mail and Safari hog a fair amount but much, much less than using Rb can.

Whether or not you will notice a difference between 2 GB or 3 GB will depend a lot on the size of your project or how many other apps you have running.

I'd go for the 3 GB despite the extra money as adding it later will be about the same if memory prices stay about the same. Since memory prices usually drop as larger ones become available a 2 GB card will be less in a year or two but you will now have an extra 1 GB card that won't be useable in much else as Desktops use different memory than Portables.

BTW, 2007r1 uses about 4 times as much Ram as 5.5.5 and it will probably need more in a year or two as features are added.

My thoughts on this matter.
