Yes, that would probably work as long as the dot operator is not involved (dot operator implies operation, i.e. an expression). To the original poster: are you sure you need this parameter to be ByRef? Are you really creating a new Picture object and assigning it in place of whatever was passed in, or are you just modifying the passed picture? And in the former case, why not make it a function that takes a Picture and returns the new Picture, and let the caller decide what to do with it?
