Hey,

I do remember those times. Such a communication channel would be
indeed very helpful for many issues. KDX [in my opinion] is the wrong
choice for many reasons and Hotline is dead for long now. Besides, it
seems that Adam Hinkley, the developer of KDX, has abadoned the
development of KDX.

The problem with privately hosted server is their uptime. Due to the
fact that they don't run on dedicated lines and servers it will most
likely cause annoying downtimes from time to time (trust me, I know
what most Hotline/KDX servers were like ;).

For the sake of simplicity I suggest to use reliable IRC on a free
server (freenode for instance). IRC is in fact able to transfer files
from user to user. For all other things a connected Wiki and a google
group or a wiki for file transfer would work just fine.

I have set up an IRC channel:
Server: irc.freenode.org
Channel: #rbcafe

And a Google Group:
 http://groups.google.com/group/rbcafe/topics

Anyone who is interested may join and have a chat! :)
Let's see if it works out or if its just another lame idea.

For your comfort, here is a list of free IRC clients:
X-Chat Aqua: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/11070
Colloquy: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/10526

... and not-so-free clients:
Snak: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/3417
Ircle: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/7980

Enjoy!

Hey all,
Not sure how many people remember it, but back in the day there
used to be a Hotline (chat) server that was geared for RB developers.
It is sort of like IRC, but with a shared file area and news board.
Unfortunately, Hotline died and KDX and Carracho took its place.
Would anyone be interested in joining (free, of course) if I setup a
server to host this forum? I'd most likely use KDX.

Bastian
