I'm testing a cross platform application which uses the Serial class.
No problem under Mac OS X but running on Windows XP under Virtual PC
I get an error code 102 opening the port. Other than that the serial
communication works as expected.
I'll test on a real PC soon, however I wonder what the error code 102
is. The language reference reports the error 102 as "InvalidOptions"
which doesn't explain too much.
I don't know exactly what that means, but in case it's useful, I've
successfully used serial ports under both VirtualPC and Parallels
(both
running XP). However, I recall that there was an extra setup step
required in the emulation software, to tell VPC/Parallels which USB
device it was supposed to grab as a Windows serial port. Perhaps this
is the missing step in your case.
I tested the application on a real PC and it works properly. However
I'm still curious to know what the error 102 (InvalidOptions) mean.
On my VPC (running XP) the serial port used (COM1) is associated to
the "modem" port of my Mac (which is the internal modem). I also
checked the "modem" checkbox of VPC to tell it this is a modem.
However, checked or not the error 102 still appear. Other than that I
can successfully communicate with the modem.
