Well it's not really RS responsibility to really do anything at in any real sense is it? It's not their responsibility to provide a bug free compiler or documentation or email support or a mailing list or a web forum or Linux or Windows versions of the IDE. So, why to they do these things? Customer service. If they didn't they'd lose business. And telling users that if they use the mySQL plug-in they'll either have to GPL their code or buy expensive licenses from mySQL to distribute their application falls under the realm of good customer service.
Did you ever go and try and find the copy of the GPL in the plug-in distribution? Not hard if you are explicitly looking for it but certainly not obvious to the typical user. How about this from the RB FAQ on the RB web site: "Do I need to pay a royalty on the applications I create with REALbasic? No, REALbasic applications can be deployed for free." I guess this is remains true if you use the mySQL plug-in and GPL your source. The thing is if this plug-in had been developed by a third-party I would have really investigated the licensing issues but since REAL released it I thought they would have worked out the licensing issues so their customers could use it without hassles. It's not RS responsibility to make sure you are licensed for anything but RB. I don't see how this is any different than using the included Oracle plugin. Up to you to understand the licensing involved with using the databases. I have to agree with Gerard on this, not a new discussion about MySQL. -Bill
