Although you are correct in the ML is secondary to the tool, it is a lifeline in my opinion. I believe the tool limps along with the ML as a crutch. I frequently have to walk away from the IDE with a "f*** this s***" attitude (sorry for being blunt) because of it's repeated crashing. I feel it an up-hill battle to make sure my applications feel up-to-date with the UI of their target audiences. I've already ranted about that last point in the past, so I won't beat a dead horse. The applications feel much, much too large for their purpose, and we still don't have version control. The tool aging rapidly. I would use something else, but I feel there is nothing better for cross-platform work. I've learned Cocoa and much prefer Xcode to REALbasic and use it as my primary tool as of recently because REAL Software cannot seem to keep up with our needs as professional developers.

So here is a point a must point out. Look at REAL Software's front page. Where is the big headline "REAL Software consolidates it's user base by eliminating it's Network Users Group"? Why was this e-mail sent by the marketing manager - or rather, why is this decision being made by the marketing department. If REAL Software believes this is a good marketing move, why are they not advertising it? Why was this announcement made directly to the NUG instead of directly to the users where this kind of stuff is sent? Does REAL Software know this is a shameful move and is trying to downplay it a bit? It doesn't make sense to send this from marketing, yet hide it at the same time. I myself did not initially see the announcement, until I noticed NUG traffic was unusually high.

I've already sent many e-mails off about this today. I need to keep quiet about this for a while and let Geoff respond. But I think overall, the damage is done. We as a user-base now know what REAL Software thinks of this resource and that cannot be taken back. As it is, I've stopped development of a new REALbasic-oriented site I have been working on, because I feel this day marks the beginning of the death of the community.

Granted the ML is a good community, but that's secondary to how the tool works. In my opinion, that's what needs to be improved, big time, along with the documentation.
