Try mode 2.  In Mode 1, I don't get a spinning cursor, but I don't get
any results either. But in Mode 2, I get periodic results, as expected.

I just double checked this and I don't get DataAvailable in Mode 1, either. In Mode 2, my "ls -lR /" (which is a VERY long process) definitely updates the editfield regularly (or as regularly as it normally does).
