Yes I find that it uses HUGE amounts of memory during the
precompile phase, well over a gig with just 9 of the MBS plugins
installed.
I have no idea what it's doing but the rest of your symptoms sound
like a classic VM thrashing scenario. My precompiling phase takes
less than 5 minutes and virtually always succeeds, on a 2 GB
MacBook Pro.
Maybe it would be worth adding more RAM as a workaround.
I don't use plug-is at all but noticed my iMac (G5-1 GB) was starting
to make lots of noise on occasion.
I took a look at the Activity Monitor and discovered I was using 750
MB for REALbasic alone. Lots of VM swapping was happening at the time.
Solution: Replaced the 2-512 MB unmatched chip sets with a matched
pair of 1 GB ones. All is cool and quiet now. :)
