Usually, I remove the footer (I already said that). As for the quoted text (the previous post for which I respond), it is necessary.
Don't you recall a large problem in this mailing list? Some people don't receive some messages (those messages are lost, randomly). I can't say how often I see a message for which I didn't received the previous. So, in case someone removes the quoted text, I'm sometimes lost at figuring out what was the question.
