The REAL World Conference is a valuable education and networking tool.

Back in my mainframe days (pre-email days), Univac had 2 conferences
per year -- one in the Spring and one in the Fall -- east coast, then
west coast. These conferences were my only contact with colleagues. I
made some great friends, learned about various procedures and new
hardware, made hardware deals with vendors, solved software problems
I was having, and so forth. These conferences were incredibly
valuable. Today, with the NUG list server, nobody works in a vacuum
anymore. But the conferences are still valuable for networking,
meeting people you only talk with via email, and learning new
software and techniques.

My 2 cents worth.
