$450 is not steep at all for a professional, supported tool. What is your time worth to you? I estimate mine at $30/hr. Now I take a look at this tool and see if it has something I really need. The I estimate how long it would take me to duplicate only the functionality I would need (I may not need everything it has to offer). In this case if it less than 15 hours then I'd do it myself, otherwise I hand over my $450 and use my 15 free hours coding the stuff I can't beg, borrow or buy.
