Hello Joe,
You mentioned making a new input method as an RB app ... I have
a longstanding issue with the OS X input method, where control + key
keypresses are not able to be sent to keyboard layouts. Instead they
are mapped by the OS (I think) to Emacs style cursor control
commands. On some keyboard layouts (for non-Roman scripts) it was OK
in OS 9 days to use control + keypresses as an access to certain glyphs.
The precise behaviour of the control + keypress is governed by
the keybinding dictionary ... called "StandardKeyBinding.dict" which
lives in the System folder (/System/Library/Frameworks/
AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources/).
I haven't been able to come up with a way to let control +
keypress access glyphs under Mac OS X, and had resigned myself to
somehow writing an input method (which is a bit too C for me) or else
working out how to tweak the entries in StandardKeyBinding.dict to
let it deliver glyphs. After many tries and failures, it's in the
too hard basket.
If RB can in fact produce an input method, this would be really
good. Do you have further information?
Regards,
Tony Barry
