I think it is not necessary (since you can choose a file, then  
"Always open with..." in the Finder, and files with that extensions  
will always open with <your choice>. I even saw cases where the  
MacCreator of the file was changed to the creator of <your choice>).

But setting the MacCreator (which is more relevant than MacType here)  
is a convenient way to specify an application to open a file with.

I wonder if these are just default values (assigned by Apple, for  
example) and the declares help programmers assign the correct values  
based on the current OS.
I think, since you can access these values by declares, that it won't  
hurt to use them (they are certainly valid MacCreators and MacTypes).

I'd say "no" twice.

But it's my opinion, not an Apple response.

I was just afraid: sometimes, one can be annoyed when someone answers  
instead of himself. But I thought I may try to reformulate in other
